Laptop Liquid Spill / Water Ingress
What Liquid Spill / Water Ingress means?
Any form of liquid that has been spilt on your laptop, this will seep its way into your machine as far as it will go and normally find a way out at the opposite end. The liquid is not always what will cause the damage, some machines will often work once they are dry. However, water leaves behind minerals and these mineral deposits will corrode away at your motherboard and all the connections, often leading to complete failure. Coffee and sugary drinks are very nasty and often do lots of damage.
Symptoms?
You will normally know if you have got your laptop wet but there’s a list of common symptoms below.
Intermittent faults ranging from screen flickering to the machine restarting itself.
Strange noises from the hard drive and fans.
Lights may start to fail or only work intermittently.
Often keys or the whole keyboard will stop working.
Causes?
Carelessness, drunkenness and children are possibly the three biggest causes but accidents are accidents and they just happen.
How long will the replacement or repair take?
It is recommended that you call us straight away should any liquid be split on your laptop. We can quickly strip it down and clean it all with a special solution that leave no residue behind. This is often all that is needed. When they are left often the damage done is already to severe and the board will need replacing along with other parts such as the hard drive. Often when this is the case the laptop is beyond economical repair.
